Pizza with vegetable pairing

Mindful Food Pairing

Author Albertsons Market | August 1, 2025

Entering into the world of diets, diet culture, and lifestyle there are a lot of messages. As a dietitian the lifestyles we see people create that are long-lasting are based around 80% nutritious choices and 20% fun choices. Finding the balance can take some time to create

Pizza & Salad

Such a classic! Pizza is generally a higher calorie choice so pairing it with a lower calorie option that has some fiber to it will help add bulk to the meal, as well as more nutrients. Pending on what type of pizza you’re ordering you could also throw on some protein to the salad to make it more balanced.

Sushi & Thai Chili Salad with Pulled Chicken

We love a good sushi situation especially on Friday when it’s at a discounted rate. We suggest pairing this higher fat and carbohydrate option with a bagged salad kit with some pulled rotisserie chicken to meet your protein goals and to round of the meal to keep you feeling fuller longer.

Cheese & Apples

This is a staple snack for us! If you remember the little luxuries blog a few days ago, this is the perfect time to ask our team what new fun cheese you could pair with your apple. This is a very well balanced snack that provides carbohydrates, fats, and proteins to give you lasting energy until your next meal. If you need a suggestion, our fav is a fancy cheddar.

Steak & Cabernet Sauvignon

Red wine does have a few health benefits when you’re sticking to the 5 ounce serving size and when you’re pairing it with a steak and some additional veggies who doesn’t love taking their time on a more luxurious dinner. Chose a cut of red meat with very little marbling, or look for cuts that end in “round” or “loin” for a better for you choice.

Popcorn & Parmesan Cheese

This is one of those suggestions that gets written off so quickly in the diet world but we’re here to scream it from the rooftops that you should be eating this. Popcorn is an excellent whole grain option, especially if you’re a volume eater. Adding the parmesan helps balance out blood sugar with the fat and protein making it a great snack option.
