Seared Tuna and Hummus Lettuce Wraps

Serves 2 to 4

Author note: The seared tuna can be substituted with your favorite packaged tuna. If you prefer a chilled lettuce wrap, chill the tuna once they are seared and sliced. Then, assemble the wraps when all ingredients are cold.

1/2 tsp kosher salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

2 tuna steaks, about 1 to 1 1/2-inch thick

1 tbsp olive oil

1 head butter lettuce, with leaves torn off

hummus

cherry tomatoes, quartered

kalamata olives, quartered

basil, chiffonade

Pat the tuna steaks dry and evenly distribute the salt and pepper on both tuna steaks, seasoning all sides. Set aside.

In a skillet, add the oil and warm over medium-high heat. Once smoking, add the tuna steaks and cook for 2 minutes a side (for rare), cook longer if you prefer a more done steak. Remove from the heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Cut into 1-inch thick slices and set aside.

Smear a spoonful or two of hummus onto the butter lettuce. Add one slice of tuna and any desired toppings, like cherry tomatoes, olives and fresh basil. Secure the wraps with a toothpick and place onto a serving platter. Serve immediately.
