Affogato

Servings vary

Author note:  Affogato is an Italian dessert that literally translates to “drowned.” For this dessert, ice cream is “drowned” in hot espresso. If you do not have an espresso machine, don’t fret. Strong coffee also works. For the ice cream, vanilla gelato is the most traditional, however, feel free to get creative with the type of ice cream used. Small cookies can be served alongside the affogato to be used as a dipping vessel. Toppings, like chocolate chips, can be added to add a bit of crunch.

Ingredients

vanilla gelato

 espresso, freshly brewed 2-ounce shot

Instructions

In a coffee mug or small bowl, add one scoop of vanilla gelato. Pour one freshly brewed  2-ounce shot of espresso over the gelato. Serve immediately.
